Private doesn't mean informal. The best private events are the most meticulously planned.

The moment you add exclusivity to an event, you add responsibility. People are expecting something curated — a specific crowd, a certain quality. Getting 50 strangers in a room is easy. Getting the right 50 people in a room, at the right venue, at the right moment — that's craft.

Defining "Private" — Three Models

Not all private events are the same. Before you plan anything, decide which model you're running:

Closed invite list You control who's invited. No public link. Invitations go out personally, by name. This is a birthday dinner, a close-network gathering, a client appreciation event. Every person in the room was put there intentionally.

Invite-only with open registration There's a registration link, but it's not publicly advertised. You share it only with your intended audience — a WhatsApp group, a mailing list, an alumni network. Anyone with the link can register, but you control who has the link.

Ticketed but unlisted Your event exists on Tikkit but doesn't appear on the public explore page. Only people with the direct URL can access and register. Provides a professional registration flow without public visibility.

Each model has a different level of control and a different operational approach. Match the model to your intent.

Managing an Invite List Without Chaos

The guest list is where private events either maintain their quality or dilute it.

Build your list in one place. A shared document works for small gatherings; a proper registration system is essential above 50 guests.

Be explicit about plus-ones. Decide your policy before you invite anyone. "You're welcome to bring a plus-one" or "this is strictly the invited list" — say it clearly. Ambiguity leads to awkward conversations at the door.

Use a registration link, even for personal gatherings. Even for a 30-person dinner, having people formally confirm via a link rather than a WhatsApp message gives you a clean list, dietary preferences, and a QR code for smooth arrival.

Waitlist intentionally. If your event is genuinely limited, set a waitlist. Cancellations happen — especially in Pakistan, where last-minute changes are common. A waitlist lets you fill spots without scrambling.

The RSVP Problem — How to Actually Confirm Attendees

Pakistan has a culturally complex relationship with RSVPs. "Yes, I'll be there, InshAllah" does not mean what it means in other cultures. Statistically, you should expect 30–40% of verbal confirmations to not show up.

How to get real confirmations:

  1. Use a registration link. People who click, fill in a form, and receive a confirmation email have made a considered commitment. Their show-up rate is significantly higher than people who replied to a WhatsApp message.

  2. Charge something, even symbolically. A Rs. 500 registration fee for a free event is not about money — it's about commitment. People who pay don't no-show.

  3. Send a reminder 24 hours before. "Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow. Your QR code is below. Here's the address." This reminder alone improves show-up rate by 20–30%.

  4. Set a registration deadline. "RSVP by Thursday" creates a decision point. Open-ended "register whenever" invitations get deprioritised.

Day-Of: Who Gets In — Door Policy with Digital Check-In

The door is where the "private" is enforced. Do it professionally.

QR check-in is the right approach. Every confirmed guest has a QR code. Your staff scan it. Green: they're on the list. Red: they're not. No arguments, no confusion, no "I told [mutual friend] I was coming."

Designate one person as the door manager. Not you — you should be hosting, not standing at the entrance. Someone who knows the guest list, can handle the occasional awkward conversation, and can make calls on edge cases.

Walk-in policy — decide before the day.

Communicate your walk-in policy to your door manager before the event. "We're at capacity, we're not accepting walk-ins tonight" is a complete sentence.

Keeping It Exclusive Online — Unlisted Event Links

One of the most useful features for private events: your Tikkit event can be set to "unlisted" — it's live and registerable, but it doesn't appear on the public explore page or in search results.

The URL itself is your key. Share it with your intended audience. Anyone outside that circle doesn't have it.

This gives you:

For high-profile or security-sensitive events (celebrity, diplomatic, or high-net-worth gatherings), this is the standard approach.

Photography and Coverage

The photos you allow — and the ones you don't — define your event's digital footprint.

If you want photos shared: brief a good photographer, designate some moments as "shareable" (entrance, group shots), encourage attendees to post.

If you don't want photos shared: communicate this clearly on arrival. "This is a private gathering — we ask you to keep personal posts off social media." Most guests respect a well-communicated request. The key is saying it clearly before the event starts, not reactively after someone has already posted.

For truly confidential gatherings (corporate, diplomatic, sensitive private), designate a photography-free policy and brief your team to enforce it.

FAQ

How do I politely turn someone down who wasn't invited but heard about the event? "It's a very small, curated gathering — I'm not able to extend the list. I'd love to have you at the next one" is gracious and firm. Don't apologise excessively or leave room for negotiation.

What's the best venue for a private party of 30–50 people in Lahore? Private farmhouses and gardens in DHA are the most popular choice for intimate events. Boutique spaces in Gulberg offer a more urban, curated feel. Hotel suites and private dining rooms at five-stars work well for higher-end gatherings.

What about Karachi for a private event of 40–60 guests? Private bungalow setups in Defence and Clifton work well. The Pearl Continental and Movenpick have private event rooms for more formal gatherings.

How do I handle someone who shows up to a private event uninvited? Your door manager handles this: "I'm sorry, your name isn't on our confirmed guest list — I'm not able to let you in tonight." Polite, firm, non-negotiable. Your door manager should not need to escalate this to you.

Should I have security at a private party? For events above 100 people, or for events with high-profile guests, yes. Two to three security personnel manage entry and maintain calm without creating a hostile atmosphere. For smaller private gatherings, your door manager is usually sufficient.
